To promote students' appreciation of historical buildings and awareness of heritage preservation, the Learning Resources Centre organised a visit to Tai Kwun in Central for 40 students from Certificate in Construction programmes on 4 August 2023. Tai Kwun is a heritage compound comprising three Declared Monuments of Hong Kong – former Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison. Through the guided tour, students learned the historical background, design and structure, as well as preservation and revitalisation of these heritage buildings. Moreover, to enrich students’ knowledge in Hong Kong’s visual culture, students were given the opportunity to visit the latest exhibition “Vital Signs” in Tai Kwun to appreciate authentic neon signs from different industries in Hong Kong, and learn the history and production of neon signs.
