The WorldSkills Competition, hailed as the “Skills Olympics”, will take place in France this September. In Hong Kong, Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) and WorldSkills Hong Kong co-organised “Hong Kong Junior Skills Competition 2024” for secondary schools’ students to learn relevant skills. HKIC experts and staff from WorldSkills Hong Kong introduced the competition details as well as the concepts and applications of tiling to the students of Junior and Senior Secondary Groups earlier.
After the briefing, the participants started their first training session to learn how to use the tools and skills of tiling. They also tried to use the cutting machine to cut the tiles into different shapes and measure if the cut sizes were accurate by using tape measure. The students strived to ensure the cut tiles could fulfil the requirement. The participants mentioned the training was fun and interesting, and they wondered if the tiles at their homes were all of identical sizes. The participants will undergo a total of 4 training sessions and will join the competition on 25 May 2024.
