Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) has been providing quality construction training in Hong Kong for over 45 years.
To cultivate perseverance among students, HKIC organised a sports-themed talk titled “Perseverance” at the Sheung Shui campus on 23 September. The event featured two guest speakers: Ms. Angel Wong, a former representative of the Hong Kong Sport Climbing Team, and Mr. Kim Sze, a current member of the Hong Kong Kendo Team, who shared their valuable experiences with students from the Diploma and Certificate in Construction programmes.
Mr. Sze shared insights from his experience in kendo, emphasising how to face setbacks and handle adversity. Through his personal anecdotes, he encouraged students to recognise that life and sports often involve moments of “surprise, fear, doubt, and hesitation”. He also emphasised the importance of persistence and perseverance, assuring students that opportunities for growth and success will eventually arise.
Ms. Wong drew parallels between sport climbing and life. She highlighted the significance of self-awareness, understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses, and creating new possibilities. Using climbing as a metaphor, she encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning, stay true to themselves in challenging situations, and courageously overcome obstacles.
Both speakers conveyed valuable lessons about determination, perseverance, and personal growth, inspiring students to face various life’s challenges with unwavering resolve.
