HKIC hosted a CIC Fellows Sharing Session at the Kowloon Bay campus on 8 May 2026, featuring Ir Dr. Derrick PANG Yat-bond, Chief Executive Officer of Asia Allied Infrastructure Holdings Limited, as the guest speaker. Dr. PANG shared his invaluable experience in the engineering field and inspired both staff and students to reflect on the core values of the construction profession.

Dr. PANG recounted his return to Hong Kong from the United States and how he gradually integrated into his team. He emphasised that there are no shortcuts to changing others’ perceptions; instead, one must rely on diligence and initiative. By leading through action—delivering on what one says and achieving results step by step—he built trust and influence over time. He also encouraged students to learn like sponges: proactively seek guidance from experienced supervisors, closely observe site operations, and develop a solid grasp of engineering details and resource allocation. He stressed that with a strong foundation, one can readily apply knowledge to new situations.

When discussing construction project management, Dr. PANG highlighted the importance of values, noting that true principles are those that remain firm under pressure. Drawing on past site incidents, he reminded students to always uphold “safety first.” Even under tight schedules and cost pressures, one must have the courage to halt work when safety risks arise, and to steadfastly uphold professional standards.

In addition, Dr. PANG shared his experience working on the Whampoa Station project, illustrating how his team can build trust and overcome challenges together in complex environments. He believes that effective leaders should stand alongside their teams and tackle problems together, thereby fostering unity and driving projects to successful completion.
