Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) are commonly used in construction sites to assist workers in performing work-at-height tasks. With an increase in MEWP usage, safety awareness among practitioners have to continually be enhanced and strengthened to avoid potential incidents. In view of this, the HKIC has designed a series of comprehensive training courses, which are the first in Hong Kong to integrate theoretical knowledge and practical training, enhancing safety standards and operational efficiency of MEWPs. These courses cover standard operating procedures, key hazard identification, and risk management techniques, ensuring participants be able to develop proficiency in equipment operation and conduct thorough risk assessments and preventive measures to avoid hazards
Currently, there were many accidents happened in using of the MEWP in the industry, and there is no standardize training available in the industry. Hence, HKIC management suggested to develop a special safety operation course in using of MEWP to uplift the safety awareness. This course is developed for the relevant personnel with the standard training to avoid safety violation and create positive safety culture. Upon completion of class, student can obtain “Certificate of Safe Operation of Mobile Elevating Work Platform” with 5 years period.
In response to industry needs, this course focuses on unifying and integrating the current industry's safety operation training content related to MEWP. Students still need to receive operation training from suppliers for each type of MEWPs.
