The Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) with the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM) on 18 November 2022, with a view to promoting professional recognition of HKIC's programmes by HKICM, strengthening as well as actively examining exchange and collaboration on construction manpower training between HKIC and HKICM.
Through the signing of the MOI, HKIC and HKICM hope to further deepen the cooperative relationship with each other. Besides recognising HKIC’s Advanced Diploma and Professional Diploma in Construction for Specialist Trades programmes, the parties hope that HKICM will explore the extension of such recognition to other programmes under HKIC at different levels in order that they can be recognised by HKICM as qualifications leading to different membership classes. The parties also hope to broaden and deepen their collaboration on “Continuous Professional Development” and the “Visiting Scholar or Guest Lecturer Scheme”
The MOI was signed by Ir Albert CHENG, Executive Director of the CIC and Cr Conrad FUNG, President of HKICM at the anniversary dinner of HKICM, as well as witnessing by Ms. Rebecca CHOI, Assistant Director - Student & Curriculum Development of HKIC, Dr. Eric CNENG, Principal - Kowloon Bay Campus of HKIC, Cr Tony ZA, Immediate Past President of HKICM and Cr Terence MANG, Vice-president of HKICM.
Since its establishment in 2018, HKIC has been committed to training technicians and supervisory personnel to meet industry demand, and to providing a complete progression pathway for its graduates. Within just several years there are now 29 programmes accredited as Qualifications Framework Level 2 to Level 4. To enhance recognition and acceptance of its training programmes, besides seeking Qualifications Framework accreditation, HKIC also seeks recognition from different government departments and professional bodies, so as to enable its graduates to acquire the desired professional recognition from the industry. Currently, the four 2-year Advanced Diploma programmes of HKIC are recognised under the CIC’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) Coordinator Course Accreditation Scheme as well as by the Hong Kong Institute of Clerks of Works and Chartered Association of Building Engineers.
